Pretend To Be A Time Traveller Day

Posted on 06 December 2012

“Pretend To Be A Time Traveller Day” began as a bit of fun on the Koala Wallop social site in 2007. As much as I love “Talk Like A Pirate Day”, this especially tickles my geeky heart and I have been celebrating the day over the last several years.

The idea is that you dress up either as someone from the past who has been deposited in our time, and is now running around amazed at our technology, or you run around as someone from the future giving people advice. Your future can be either dystopian or utopian, your choice. You then try to fit in…badly. The more awkward you are at keeping a low profile, the funnier and better.

The traditional date for this event is 08 December. The original post describing the event has disappeared online, but Geek USA has preserved the details in all their glorious silliness.

My favourite thing to do is go to an op-shop/secondhand store and unearth the most unidentifiable metal knick-knack I can find, then give it to someone saying, “Sometime in the future, you will know what to do with this.”

Hope to “not” see some of you running around this Saturday!

Peace and kindness,

Katherine
