Friday Exercise: For the Love of Donuts!
Posted on 17 April 2009
I have to admit I admire people who can come up with sharp witty humour related to current events, but I just come apart trying to do it. I have a hard time getting at the funny, because the instant I think about why some things are newsworthy, I want to cry. HOWEVER, thank goodness for silly news items.
For this week’s comedy exercise I encourage you to write three one-liners about this article:
Contrite Robber Returns $167 To Doughnut Shop
HINSDALE, Ill. (CBS)–A day after he held up a Hinsdale Dunkin’ Donuts, the
teenaged robber returned to the same store–to apologize and return the $167 he
took, police said Thursday.

My first thought was simply, “Doh!” But that’s hardly a one-liner. So how about these for starters:
- As an addicted coffee drinker, the robber needed the doughnuts more than the dough.
- In these financial times all the $167 would get him is the coffee.
- He’s now doing community service for the police: he’s delivering their coffee and doughnuts.
- The robber’s now apologising for not returning the holes as well.
Peace and kindness,
Katherine
